The Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s Office is responsible for collecting all property, yield (gravel and timber), and current use taxes prescribed by law committed to them by warrant from the assessors (NH RSA 76:10). This office strives to provide accurate and efficient services while collecting monies to meet the Town’s financial obligations. (NH RSA 41:35, NH RSA 41:45-a.)

When are property taxes generally due in Deerfield?
Deerfield property taxes are due semi-annually on July 1st and December 1st.

What period does the tax bill cover?
The tax year runs from April 1st – March 31st.  The 1st half tax bill covers April 1st – September 30th.  The 2nd half tax bill covers October 1st – March 31st.

Does Deerfield accept partial payments?
Yes, Deerfield accepts partial payments per NH RSA 80:71.

Does Deerfield accept pre-payments for anticipated property taxes?
Yes, Deerfield accepts pre-payments for property taxes per NH RSA 80:52.

My taxes are escrowed; do I need to send my mortgage company a copy of my tax bill?
It is the responsibility of the homeowner to ensure that their property taxes are being paid.  While most mortgage companies request this information, we recommend that you forward a copy of your tax bill to them in the event that they did not receive or request the information.  

What is the interest rate for unpaid taxes?
The interest rate for unpaid property taxes is 12% per annum.  Interest starts accruing the day after the tax bill due date and is compounded daily.  If you are paying on past due amounts, please call our office to obtain updated figures.

What is the interest rate for liened tax bills?
The interest rate for liens is 18% per annum, established by state statute.

If there is a lien placed on my property, how long before further action is taken?
After a lien is placed on a property, the property owner has two years and a day to pay off the lien before the parcel has the potential of being absorbed by deed.

I do not agree with my assessment, what do I do?
Please contact the Assessing Department directly.

How do I change the mailing address on my tax bill?
Address changes are processed through the Assessing Department.  Please contact them directly.

What types of payment does Deerfield accept?
The Town of Deerfield currently accepts cash, checks, and money orders as forms of payment.  Please note that if a check is returned, a $37.00 returned check fee will be assessed in addition to what is owed.
