The Office of Welfare provides service to individuals and families who are unable to provide for their basic needs. This assistance may be offered through information, referrals and/or temporary emergency assistance.

Applications for general assistance are available at the Town Offices in the George B. White Building during regular business hours. Confidential voice mail messages for the Welfare Administrator may be left at anytime at 603

The Town of Deerfield has
updated its list of community
resources for seniors.
Time to Apply For Fuel Assistance

Fuel Assistance Applications are
currently being accepted for the
2011-12 Winter Heating Season.
You may call 1-800-639-3896 to set
up your appointment.
To qualify, persons must (1) be
responsible for paying heating bills
to an energy supplier or indirectly as
part of rent; (2) have yearly heating
costs of at least $100; and (3) have
a total household income that falls
below federally established income
guidelines for one month prior to
application.
The fuel assistance is offered through
Rockingham Community Action. Grants
will begin being disbursed in December
2011, but the time to apply is now.

If you are facing hard times, you may
also qualify for electric assistance - it is a
separate program. Just ask about this
program when you apply for fuel
assistance. Again, call 1-800-639-3896
to set up your appointment!

10 TIPS ON PREVENTING THE
FLU AND STAYING HEALTHY

 

1. If you are ill, stay home from
work or school until you have no fever
for at least 24 hours, without the use
of fever reducing medication.

2. Wash your hands frequently with
soap and hot water for 20 seconds or
use an alcohol-based (>60 % alcohol)
hand gel.

3. Cover your mouth and nose with
tissue when you cough or sneeze, or
cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve,
not your hands.

4. Place your used tissue in the waste
basket.

5. Clean your hands after coughing
or sneezing.

6. Avoid close contact with individuals
who are ill, remaining at least 6 feet
away.

7. Avoid sharing eating utensils, cups.

8. Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty
of fluids, exercise and get plenty
of sleep.

9. Wash frequently touched objects,
such as door handles, kitchen and
bathroom surfaces, remotes and phone
receivers, with a household disinfectant.

10. Receive a flu shot, when vaccine is
available.
